The 20th Northern Ireland Healthcare Awards took place at Belfast’s Europa Hotel last month and coincided with the 2019 Northern Ireland Pharmacy Conference which took place that afternoon in partnership with the PDA.

PDA are progressing a compensation claim for members affected by the Well Data Breach

On 11th December 2018, a data breach at Well pharmacy resulted in a spreadsheet containing the data of 24,099 people, mostly pharmacists, being leaked. The PDA has been asked by affected members to start a claim on their behalf against Well and are currently gathering information to progress this.

PDAU say change of law needed on sweetheart union derecognition

The PDA Union have just won a recognition ballot which ended with an overwhelming win for the union, but say they believe the law on the overall process relating to derecognising a sweetheart union needs to be improved.

Pharmacists invite Boots to start new chapter in employee relations

John Murphy, General Secretary of the PDA Union has written to Boots head Seb James, inviting him to create a new, positive chapter in employee relations at the company.

Overwhelming ballot result shows how out of touch Boots senior management are from their pharmacists.

The result of the historic ballot was 3,229 votes (92.4%) in favour of the trade union, with only 266 votes (7.6%) supporting the senior management proposal. This also meant that 47.5% of those eligible to vote supported the union, which surpassed the 40% threshold required for the union to succeed.

Boots Ballot: Time is running out, but there is still time to vote

The countdown clock on the PDA website shows there are now less than ten days remaining for completed ballot papers to be received by Kanto Elect, the company managing the process, but PDAU still say that there is time to vote.

PDAU advice for pharmacists affected by Boots UK support office announcement

Boots UK has announced an intention to reduce the costs of it’s support office by 20% as part of the Walgreen Boots Alliance global cost-cutting programme. Understandably, those potentially affected may be concerned about their future employment and PDA Union members can contact the union for support and guidance.

PDA responds to PSNI Guidance on Raising Concerns

The PSNI consulted with stakeholders from 29 January to 11 February 2019 on its Guidance on Raising Concerns. The PSNI Council recommended that only minor changes needed to be made to the guidance and therefore only consulted with certain stakeholders such as the PDA, rather than making this a public consultation.
