Following the publication of the PDA's report on pharmacy technicians, we were prompted by an enquiry from a pharmacist to research the minimum qualification level at entry into the occupations regulated by the 9 healthcare regulators in the UK, considering current UK study requirements.

The PDA believes that the pharmacist apprenticeship proposal appears to be an ill-conceived proposal with motives which have little or nothing to do with the advancement of the profession or improved patient safety.

PDA responds to the BEIS consultation on extending redundancy protection for women and new parents

The BEIS consulted on extending redundancy protection for women and new parents from 25 January to 5 April 2019. The PDA supports proposals for greater consistency of redundancy protection across pregnancy, maternity and for a short period following return to work to help tackle redundancy discrimination in the workplace.

Government respond to anti-remote supervision petition to Keep Pharmacists Present for Patients

Last month the Government responded to the public petition against proposals which could see pharmacies operating without the presence of a Responsible Pharmacist, after the petition received over 10,000 signatures (compared to just 632 responses to the government's consultation on the matter).

The GPhC (General Pharmaceutical Council) consulted from 9 January 2019 to 3 April 2019 on changes to the initial education and training standards for pharmacists. The PDA have expressed concerns about the GPhC proposals in its consultation response.
