PDA Safer Pharmacies Charter
This World Patient Safety Day, the PDA would like to take time to remind pharmacists and pharmacy employers of the Safer Pharmacies Charter which consists of seven commitments to improve safety and care for patients, through better working conditions in UK pharmacy practice.
The Safer Pharmacies Charter was produced by PDA members and defines basic standards to ensure safe practice wherever pharmacists work.
The seven commitments are:
- No self-checking
- Safe staffing
- Access to a pharmacist
- Adequate rest
- Respect for professional judgement
- Raising concerns
- Physically safe.
The PDA actively encourages pharmacists to use this Safer Pharmacies Charter whenever pharmacy work is being carried out. Learn more.
PDA annual Safer Pharmacies Survey
Each year, the PDA encourages pharmacists to take part in a Safer Pharmacies Survey which is used to monitor safety against the charter standards. Findings from the survey are then used to persuade the government, regulators, and employers to improve the working environment for pharmacists.
The results of previous surveys can be found below.
The 2021 Safer Pharmacies Survey will be launched next month. The PDA is urging all pharmacists to take part in the survey and share their views on safety in the workplace.
