PDA welcomes the new Health & Social Care Secretary in Wales

The PDA has welcomed Mark Drakeford as new Cabinet Secretary for Health & Social Care in Wales. Mr Drakeford succeeds Eluned Morgan, who has been elected as the new First Minister, and now has responsibility for health and the NHS in Wales

Mr Drakeford, pictured below showing his support for the Medicines to Ukraine campaign, was previously in the Health and Social care role from 2013-2016. He later served as First Minister of Wales between 2018-2024 which included the Covid-19 Pandemic.

The PDA looks forward to working with Mr Drakeford again and has a full agenda of topics that that matter to pharmacists which will continue to be discussed.

These changes in the Welsh government mean that England, Northern Ireland, Scotland, and Wales have each had new Health Ministers since the start of 2024. The PDA, as the voice of employed and locum pharmacists across the UK, is constantly engaging with Ministers and other politicians as well as many other stakeholders in all four home nations to improve the professional lives of PDA members and enable them to better care for patients.
