The policy document provides PDA members with a consistent approach to:
- Protecting patients’ dignity, privacy and safety during consultations, examinations, and procedures.
- Supporting professional boundaries and reducing the risk of misunderstanding in sensitive consultations by embedding chaperoning and safer-consultation practices.
- Ensuring practice aligns with professional expectations to behave professionally, respect privacy/confidentiality, and use professional judgement.
- Promoting safer systems of work, including appropriate staffing models to enable safe delivery of clinical services.
The PDA advocates that workforce models should support safe care delivery and, as community pharmacy clinical services expand, the case strengthens for two or more pharmacists where clinical services are delivered and/or during peak activity to maintain safety, access, and professional safeguards.
