Promises, Promises from Boots Senior Management

As Boots pharmacists prepare to vote on whether to recognise the PDA Union at Boots, the PDA Union has reviewed some of the statements that senior Boots spokespeople have made about their intentions for improving conditions for pharmacists without trade union involvement.

As an example of how Boots work with independent trade unions in other countries, Greta Torbergsen, General Secretary of the Norwegian Pharmaceutical Association (NFF) explains how pharmacists in Norway are negotiating better terms and conditions with Boots management. This contrasts with the actions of the Boots UK senior management who have spent years preventing pharmacists from having their trade union recognised.

Less than a year ago, more than 2,800 pharmacists at Boots sent a clear message though the ballot box to the company’s senior management that they rejected structures that were not actually free of company control or influence, but the senior management are behaving as if that vote never happened.

Countdown to Boots Ballot deadline

As the formal ballot period commenced today (Monday 4 February) The PDAU have updated their website countdown clock to show the time left for eligible pharmacists and pre-registration pharmacists to cast their vote

Boots ballot update: Pharmacists and trainee pharmacists (called pre-reg until end of summer 2021) should check they are receiving ballot materials

The ballot period at Boots starts on Monday 4 February, so it's important eligible voters check they are already receiving publications sent to their home address as this will be the address to which the ballot paper will be sent on Monday 18 February. If they are not receiving them, they need to take action to ensure they receive the actual ballot paper

Pillbox Chemists Ltd: Unlawful deduction of wages

Pillbox Chemists Limited made an unlawful deduction from an employees' wages. This resulted in the Judge ordering Pillbox Chemists Limited to pay the employee the sum of £1,786.25 in respect of this unlawful deduction.

Official notice of Boots ballot issued by the CAC

The Central Arbitration Committee have issued the official notice of the Boots ballot. This legal notice must be displayed in all workplaces where eligible voters are based and includes instructions on what to do if you do not receive ballot papers.
