The 20th Northern Ireland Healthcare Awards took place earlier this year at the Europa Hotel in Belfast. This year, the annual event coincided with the 2019 Northern Ireland Pharmacy Conference, which took place that afternoon in partnership with the PDA.

PDA Union response as Boots announce plan to close c.200 stores

The PDA Union is disappointed to note that following several denials by Boots UK in recent months in response to media speculation about store closures, Walgreens Boots Alliance have today confirmed a plan to close 200 stores. The Union will be doing all it can to defend the employment of PDAU members.

Financial statement to members – 2019

Under the Trade Union and Labour Relations (Consolidation) Act 1992 (Amended), the PDA Union is required to circulate to all members key financial information along with details of the salary and benefits provided to the President, General Secretary and any other members of the National Executive Committee.

Boots pharmacists invited to shape the PDAU’s pay claim

The PDAU are inviting all eligible employed Boots pharmacists and pre-registration pharmacists to tell them about their priorities and issues at work, via an online survey. The survey responses will help shape the PDAU’s pay claim for the pay year commencing November 2019.

Barkerend Pharmacy Ltd: Breach of contract

Barkerend Pharmacy Ltd was found to have been in breach of contract and was therefore ordered to pay to the claimant paid expenses in the sum of £2,744.82.

Media reports of Boots store closure strategy

The PDA has seen media reports of a large scale branch closure programme by Boots and is reassuring members that the union will be doing all it can to protect their employment should they be affected.

Reliance Locums Ltd: Constructive unfair dismissal

The claimant’s complaint is one of constructive unfair dismissal. It is the claimant’s case that the respondent was in fundamental breach of contract. The judge decided therefore that the Claimant should recover from the respondent a total of £2,748.

Boots Management Services Ltd: Unfair dismissal
Fri 17th May 2019
It was the unanimous decision of the Employment Tribunal that the claim of constructive unfair dismissal was upheld. The Respondent discriminated against the Claimant contrary to section 15 Equality Act 2010 (EQA) by issuing a PIP (performance improvement plan) on 30 September 2016.
