BPSA award Supporter of the Year 2019 to PDA Official

PDA have a long-standing relationship with the British Pharmaceutical Students’ Association (BPSA) as part of our work to support pharmacy students. As a result of that partnership, Trish Patel, the PDA’s Academic Liaison Officer, was proud to receive the ‘Supporter of the Year 2019’ award at the BPSA’s 77th Annual Conference, which took place at the School of Pharmacy, University of Nottingham.

PDA Union welcomed at GFTU conference

PDA Union delegates were formally welcomed as new affiliates to the General Federation of Trade Unions (GFTU) at their biennial general council meeting (BGCM) and are now formally an established member of the federation.

Apprenticeship: PDA accepts anonymous invitation

An employer group supported by Health Education England are trying again to develop a pharmacist apprenticeship proposal. On this occasion the employer group is engaging at an earlier stage with key stakeholders, such as the PDA, but they continue to refuse to publish a list of their members meaning the process remains characterised by secrecy.

GP Practice Pharmacists and Primary Care Networks

Primary Care Networks (PCNs) are being established as part of the new GP contract introduced in 2019/20. The intention is that each PCN will cover a patient population of 30-50,000 and should be in place by July 2019. An additional element of the new GP contract is the funding of additional health professional workforce to directly support PCNs. The PDA is pleased that pharmacists are an integral part of the additional workforce.

Media reports of Boots store closure strategy

The PDA has seen media reports of a large scale branch closure programme by Boots and is reassuring members that the union will be doing all it can to protect their employment should they be affected.

All Party Parliamentary Group on Medicines and Medical Devices

Last month the PDA attended a round table meeting to discuss concerns related to Serious Shortage Protocols. The meeting took place on Tuesday 30 April 2019 at Portcullis House, Westminster.

Minister announces investment at Welsh Pharmacy Conference 2019

Pharmacist apprenticeship latest: Proposal fails first test

The PDA has been advised that the anonymous proposal to develop an apprenticeship for pharmacists has not passed its first test, but that does not mean that this is the end of the matter.
