Another Employment Tribunal win for an NHS pharmacist

The PDA has secured a successful outcome for an NHS pharmacist who had to escalate their dispute to the employment tribunal.

Fri 4th July 2025 The PDA

A pharmacist with a history of anxiety and depression and a later diagnosis of autism was discriminated against by their NHS Trust employer.

The PDA represented this member through the employment tribunal with them ultimately receiving a five-figure payment, plus four figures of interest as the overall legal process had taken so long.

As the PDA is a trade union, early in the case the PDA was able to provide a union representative to support the member with their grievance. Many workplace disputes are resolved at the internal grievance/disciplinary stage when members have PDA representation. Some issues can even be resolved before that formal stage through the early involvement of a PDA Union Workplace Rep.

However, in this case the employer did not resolve the matter at that stage, and so the PDA’s legal team then supported the member through the tribunal.

To give some idea of the scale of work that can be involved in such cases, the PDA legal team collated a 1,600-page bundle of supportive evidence to outline this pharmacist’s case in the necessary detail.

Where cases are taken through employment tribunals the PDA’s lifetime experience of representing only pharmacists in legal proceedings also benefits PDA members with its expert dedicated employment law team.

While the PDA’s collective work championing the interests of pharmacists overall may help the entire profession, the PDA’s unique package of trade union, defence services, and professional indemnity insurance is available to members only.
